CTL Electronics Inc.
A legacy in Electronic Media (1968- 2003)
Chi-Tien Lui’s Collection (via former CTL Electronics Inc., 1968–2023)
C.T.L. Electronics Inc., founded by Chi-Tien Lui in 1968 and active until 2023, provided expert technical services to museums, artists, collectors, and institutions across the U.S. and internationally. The company became a trusted name in providing analog equipment and in the conservation of video art and the restoration of analog and CRT-based systems, collaborating with some of the most prestigious cultural institutions and private collections in the world.
A unique hallmark of Mr. Lui’s career is his unparalleled collection of audiovisual equipment, now known as the Chi-Tien Lui Collection. Spanning from the 1920s to the advent of the digital era, the collection includes over 10,000 historic units and is considered one of the most comprehensive archives of vintage electronic equipment in the United States. It serves both as a functional reference resource and as a living timeline of media technology’s evolution.
Mr. Lui continues to provide custom CRT monitor solutions and technical consultation, and his legacy remains vital to the field of media conservation.
Since 2005, Raphaele Shirley and La Paix Management LLC (est. 2017) have worked closely with Mr. Lui to support conservation efforts, manage special installations, and preserve complex media artworks for institutions and estates. Together, they have carried out restoration, fabrication, and consulting work for some of the most significant multi-monitor and analog-based artworks in museum and private collections.
La Paix Management LLC is now actively stewarding the Chi-Tien Lui Collection and supporting the continuation of Mr. Lui’s life work. As the formal operations of CTL Electronics Inc. have concluded, La Paix will carry this legacy forward—offering services, archival access, and conservation expertise to institutions, artists, and curators. While Mr. Lui remains irreplaceable, the company is committed to preserving and transmitting his knowledge and experience to ensure the ongoing care and relevance of electronic and media-based art.
